We flew in to Wellington, which is on the north island and had a wonderful talk with our B&B host, Neil, who has lived in both NZ and the US! We also walked around the city, and saw some of the sites...<br\> Then we got HUNGRY! Apparently, the city shuts down for Sunday evenings: nothing was open! We finally found an expensive restaurant that was open; certainly wasn't the best food we had, but at least we weren't hungry anymore!<br\>Yay for getting to sleep in a real bed!"

We were there for hours.<br\>On to the Weta Workshop, the team that built all the props for Lord of the Rings, the Hobbit, and hundreds of other movies! Very cool place with many cool miniatures!<br\>We found food (pizza for these Americans) and walked through the botanical gardens to complete a wonderful day.'

Luckily made it onto the ferry after James had a ticket for the wrong day. It was a beautiful ride to the south island (though the wind got old pretty fast). Then, we hopped straight on the bus to Kaikoura!<br\>The information center people in Kaikoura told us to do the hike around the peninsula today, so we started a 3.5 hour hike at 3:30! It was so worth it though, beautiful ocean views with the mountain backdrop!<br\>Then we get near the end and got to hang out with some baby seals! They were adorable! We grabbed dinner around 8 on the way to the hostel, and walked home in the dark."

(Sorry Jennifer!)<br\>It rained pretty much all day, and we were really glad we went for the hike yesterday! We went shopping for a few things, and rode bikes over to see the seals, but the rain drove us back to the hostel. The fellow hostel dwellers were all wearing onesies, check out the pictures!<br\>Then, Jo (Jennifer'+"'"+'s distant cousin) came and picked us up and brought us to their family farm! Jo was amazing, so helpful and interested in what we were doing and our plans. She made a wonderful dinner, and then we all crashed! We braved the weather (every 15 minutes it would stop or start raining) to hike around the farm; such idyllic country! The broom bush is a weed, and it is terrible for the land, but it makes the hills look amazing!<br\>Charlie, Jo's husband, helped us warm up and dry off, before showing us around the farm! It was so interesting, learning about sheepdogs and the shearing process! Charlie and Jo were gone in the evening so we made our own dinner and got to bed early in preparation for the big day ahead!"

The campervan is awesome, one of the smallest ones with a kitchen, toilet, and shower. Driving is rough: you are on the wrong side of the car and road, with a stick shift (on your left side). We got food at the grocery store (SO much more reasonable than eating out!) and headed out. We stopped at Lake Tekapo and then headed towards Mt Cook. We found our favorite camping spot of the whole trip that night, on Lake Pukaki. We were right next to the lake, with a perfect view of Mt. Cook on the other side! It was raining/sleeting, but we decided we HAD to push through and do the Hooker Valley hike. The wind was the worst part, so strong! The view at the end was very cool though! <br\>We walked up to Tasman Glacier (super pretty) before we left for Oamaru. A bit of a mishap with our van once we got there: the bed fell through and one of the cabinets got stuck shut. We figured it out, but it was a little stressful! <br\>Then we went to see the cute blue penguins. The adults are only 1 ft tall! They were very cute, it was tons of fun. We found our camping spot around midnight and couldn't see a thing... Hopefully it's a cool spot, we'll find out in the morning!"

Jennifer saved James from wrecking the campervan by driving it into a parking garage. <br\>We drove a long ways, towards Te Anau, where Jennifer found a little campervan parking place that was also a farm! They dropped us off near a waterfall, which we then kayaked through! Then we kayaked on back. We had our favorite food here, at Fergburger (I know, a burger? But it was so good!), and then we headed out towards Wanaka. If Queenstown was Boulder, Wanaka was Breckenridge.
